REPORT ON CONSCIENTIZATION PROGRAMME

TOPIC : PLASTIC POLLUTION.

INRODUCTION

 Critical consciousness, Conscientization, is a popular education and social concept developed by Brazilian pedagogue and educational theorist Paulo Freire, grounded in post-Marxist critical theory. Critical consciousness focuses on achieving an in-depth understanding of the world, allowing for the perception and exposure of social and political contradictions. Critical consciousness also includes taking action against the oppressive elements in one's life that are illuminated by that understanding. Conscientization is the process of developing a critical awareness of one's social reality through reflection and action.

As part of the First Phase of School Internship, We had to organize a Conscientization programme. I arranged a session on the topic 'Plastic Pollution'. The programme was conducted on Thursday ,10 November 2022 in 8E classroom.

NEED AND SIGNIFICANCE

Plastic pollution is increasing day by day. Sustainable development, promoting biodiversity,protecting wildlife and preserving it for future generations an adequate way of reducing plastic pollution needs to be implemented at the earliest. Education is important for changing human behaviour. Education can equip young people with skills that can help them to develop more innovative ideas to reduce the existing problems in the environment.

OBJECTIVES

✦ To make the students aware of the ill effects of plastic and plastic pollution.

✦ To make the students aware about the recycling of plastic.

✦ To provide some remedy all measures and ways to reduce plastic pollution.

✦ To teach the students how to reduce and limit the usage of plastic.

✦ To make the students aware about the chemicals included in the plastic and its harmful nature.

REPORT

As a part of our BEd curriculum we have to conduct a conscientization program. I chose the topic "Plastic pollution".

Today the use of plastic has increased so awareness about the ill effects of plastic and its harmful nature nature and human beings is a must need. In order to present the topic a PowerPoint presentation was included and the class was conducted on November 10th,2022 on class 8E.

The students actively participated in the introduction section where the topic plastic and its overuse was introduced. With the help of the PowerPoint slide the topics like the Chemicals present in the plastic, the type of plastic products, plastic pollution and its adverse effects on environment and other factors were discussed. The topics like recycling of plastic and remedies to reduce plastic pollution and its adverse effects were also discussed. Students actively participated in the interactive session and they suggested many other remedies and concluded the topic by promising themselves to reduce the use of plastic in daily life.

IMPACT OF THE PROGRAMME

The awareness programme was found to be effective. Students got clarity on how to avoid over usage of plastic. They are taught about the do's and don'ts to avoid the increase in plastic pollution.The use of videos was helpful for them to have a better understanding of adverse effects caused by plastic in the environment. They were able to identify ways to reduce use of plastic themselves and were determined to reduce the use of plastic in their daily life. 

CONCLUSION

 The program was found to be effective. It provided the students sense of responsibility implement the ways to reduce the use of plastic in daily life to promote biodiversity and encourage sustainable development.
